I gave myself the lofty goal of reading 50 new novels for 2013, and damned if I didn't win that challenge with 9 minutes left in the year :D. Of the novels, only one of them was written by a guy. The genres I read were Urban Fantasy, Historical Fantasy, Hard Scifi, and a lot of Regency/Victorian Romances. And now on to the lists:

NOVELS: 50 new novels )

NON-FICTION BOOKS: 2 & both were novel research )

THOUGHTS ON THE YEAR:Read more... )

Tomorrow I'm starting this week over again. It has been a spectacularly soul-sucking, brain-dumbing, heart-killing ride and I have decided to get off that roller coaster, thank you very much. And since I have the next two days, I figured I'd reboot the week and channel that vibe into getting things accomplished. Like:

  • Clean all things. ALL THINGS.
  • Chai tea and a long walk each morning to restore my soul and remind myself of why I create.
  • Once my brain has rebooted enough, attack Kingdom forums and make all posts my bitch.
  • Assemble elite criminal team to rob a casino. Oh wait, just the usual RP suspects to get some posts in, hopefully at least two.
  • Install the new memory on Shiny (don't kill Shiny) and install photoshop, finally.
  • Gym and vitamins!!!
  • Draw all things. ALL THINGS.
  • Actually do and ship off federal taxes. Monies are always appreciated.
  • Continue pondering this years trick for Unbirthday Drabbles (Requests go live sometime in the next two weeks)
  • Did I mention clean all things? ALL THINGS!!

I think I met a lot of my goals this month, especially considering the depression and the computer crash. I lost all of my pictures. Not only did I rediscover foodporn settings on my camera, but I took quite a few landscape photos, neighborhood shots, and did lots of shots while on vacation.Pictures of Carmel, Monterey Bay Aquarium, and around Kolsbeckistan. Also, birthday bundtinis!!!! )

March Goal: Santana Row, Rose garden, possibly the nunnery. *___*

Art & Sketches

6! That's right, one more than last month! Clover & Reed, a couple Neves, and a few chibi's from the Cloudnin AU. )

March Goal: STILL need to do a series of sketches to regain my ability to draw Neve and Mara's faces without references once more.

RP Tags, Fanfiction & Drabbles

I did not do as much this month as I had hoped, but considering I lost so much when my harddrive crashed at the beginning of the month and mood was seriously down due to a bunch of things, I'm not going to beat myself up. I've had a few good posts the last month, I just have to be more consistent about getting them out.

Comments: This is a rough draft, but I fricking love where this drabble is going. *___* I've been having a problem getting back into the drabble side of writing, and this proved that I can still get there.

March Goal: My monthly average will be 2 tags a week and 1 drabble a week. Will reach this goal!!!

I LOVE THIS WEEK! My enthusiasm is so great I think I scared Sage last night because the excitement was so high, I could not stand still and was as such falling all over the place! The excitement had to come out! It just did!

So I decided I should probably channel some of this overflowing positive energy into getting shit done and the rocking todo list was born! Because sometimes you have to list out all you have to do before you realize holy bananas, I should probably be working on todo list instead of scrolling past Homestuck fanart tumblrs. XD
I have a lot to do, ahhhh! )

  20. Goliath by Scott Westerfeld ★★★★
  • Highlights: By far, the Hunger Games trilogy were the books that most influenced me this year. FEELINGS EXPLOSIONS EVERYWHERE. I wish someone on my flist would read the books so I can spit out all my feelings for Katniss and Peeta and Gale and Haymitch and that damned cat  ;______:. The Leviathan books were also amazing! And Silk is for Seduction had arguably my favorite female lead in YEARS.
  • Lowlights: The Lady Most Likely was one of the most infuriating reads I've suffered in a while. Books with three narrative threads written by different authors have been enjoyable reads in the past, but this one was so disjointed it was ridiculous and I intensely disliked two of the three couples. As much as I adore Julia Quinn novels, this one was a train wreck I'm sorry I laid eyes on.

  • Highlights: I have to divide these up into categories. For Feelings Explosions & Spending Half The Movie Tearbending? The Muppets & HP. For entirely unexpected fangasms? Batman: Under the Red Hood & Sorcerer's Apprentice (the latter has become a top movie OF ALL TIME so deep are my feelings for this stupid movie!).  For Documentaries That Inspired Me? Conan & Waking Sleeping Beauty. And then there is MOVIE OF MY HEART aka THOR aka THE MOVIE THAT DID ALL OF THE ABOVE.  I re-watched it with my mom last month and holy cats, I spent the whole climax of the movie in tears. IT ISN'T FUNNY MOM, THIS IS A STORY ABOUT BROTHERS AND FEELINGS AND LADIES BEHING AWESOME AND SCIENCE AND CRAPPY FATHERS AND THOR IS TOTALLY CODED AS A GOLDEN RETRIEVER AND YOU'LL NEVER CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE. I have feelings, okay?
  • Lowlights: I was forced to watch Little Fockers in theaters, because my mom decided it would be her birthday movie. Ug. Ug. UGGG. I give it half of a star only because I love Barbra Streisand & Dustin Hoffman as crazy marrieds. I can't say that Green Lantern was a lowlight because it put me to sleep two of the three times I tried to watch it. WATCHMAN WAS THE WORST MOVIE OF ALL TIME, but it wasn't as bad as it could have been because Sage was in the other room making fun of me the whole time it was on (and helped me keep my sanity when I couldn't handle the icky any longer).

I didn't have to do an end of the year post for 2010... because I actually kept updating my media post the entire year. It was quite possibly the only time I've kept an entire project up an entire year, you guys *___*. Next year, I'm going to have a sister post, listing all the creative projects I'm engaging in throughout the year. Keeping track of my creative input AND output is the easiest way for me to keep that creative momentum going!

2010 ended with me having a chronic bronchitis attack... and probably the worst one I've had in years. I feel wonderful, actually (you know, beyond the inability to breathe), but I looked absolutely wretched as I kept getting double looks, people asking me if everything is okay, and people who tended to otherwise ignore me wanting to know if they could do anything for me o.0;;. I blame the deep purple circles beneath my eyes (I get them when I can't breathe). I was dubbed Sad Panda Kol... and you know? I accept it. I totally was Sad Panda Kol in 2010. I was totally willing to be that for the last night of 2010...

... and when I woke up today, the dark circles were mostly gone and my breathing was back to about 50% of normal. 2011, I think we're getting along just fine so far, especially after that fantastic night of sleep and getting off work four hours early. I can deal with this :D.

I don't want to dwell on 2010 anymore. Totally keeping my eyes on the horizon to the adventures 2011 promises!
kol: (I have lots of lives)
This post is mostly to provide link back on the profile.
Television:

Beloveds: Conan, HIMYM, Castle, Community, Criminal Minds, Fringe, Leverage, Project Runway, Venture Brothers, RuPaul's Drag Race, Top Chef, Work of Art, Doctor Who (11 is my new Doctor X0)
Past favs I still watch on occasion: Alias, Angel, Avatar: The Last Airbender, BSG, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Good Eats, Highlander, New Amsterdam, The Pretender, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Stargate: SG-1
Dropped: NCIS:LA, Stargate: Universe, The Guild (latest season was a bit too awkward porn), Psych (I miss the Shawn and Gus show), Top Chef: Just Desserts (the drama was a major turn off), Drag-U (I just didn't like the girl bashing, sorry).
Series KO's: The Muppet Show (YEAH I SO DID :D), Soul Eater (anime), Baccano! (just 1 Disc left!!!), Black Lagoon (anime), Community, 30Rock, Stargate Atlantis, Star Trek & Star Trek: The Next Generation (I have not watched them all X0), Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman (made it 1/2), Primeval (only one season left), Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Futurama, Better Of Ted, Eureka (made it through seasons 1&2), The Sarah Jane Adventures (got through season 1), MoonlightPushing Daisies

I watch a lot of television. It really is a bit obscene, until you factor in tivo and the fact a lot of the shows don't air the same blocks of time ^.^;;. I actually KO'd Fringe before this season started, but I keep forgetting to add it to tivo season pass, and now I'm behind again X0. Castle, The Guild, and Venture Brothers are the only shows I enjoy pretty much every episode-- most of the stuff I watch feels like it is on the decline, or like SG:U, just not even trying for good anymore. But I watch, because for the most part I'm bored and need easy entertainment XD.

I need to watch all of Atlantis-- I couldn't hang when Weir left, and I just need to push past that and see it to the conclusion. Mostly because I miss Rodney. I'm sure this will change once I actually watch Rodney in a few episodes X3.

Manga:

Weekly: Bleach, Naruto
Monthly: Soul Eater, Full Metal Alchemist, Yankee-kun to Megane-chan
Planned KO: Claymore, Ouran High School Host Club, Vampire Knight

Bleach is my OTM. I love the minimalist backgrounds, the swordplay, the crazy bankai, the cast of a thousand. I am not a shipper in the romantic sense-- for varied relationships Kubo presents. I am there for the ladies-- Matsumoto Rangiku is my favorite, but I love Tatsuki, Rukia, Orihime, Yachiru, Unohana, and Yoruichi for their own virtues and failings. My favorite division is the tenth, as I adore the crazy relationship between Matsumoto and Hitsugaya, but I have a lot of love for the 8th and 11th divisions as well. While I am fascinated by life in Soul Society, I really miss the adventures back in the real world, and I hope the next arc lets us see more of Chad, Tatsuki, and the others actually getting to interact with everything. Unpopular Bleach Opinions: I think Aizen is a stupid villain but I don't mind looking at him because damn is he pretty, I hate Hinamori and the victimization and portrayal of weak women yet again, I want more Rukia and Renji adventures, I think OTPing Rangiku/Gin as a healthy couple is ridiculous, disgusting, and a sign you don't have an idea of what a healthy relationship is, and being fully onboard the redemption of the surviving Espada (and bringing Ulquiorra back so he can be redeemed because I love that guy.)

I read Naruto mostly for the trainwreck of crazySauce, but also out of terror for Karin and Kakashi. Also, Naruto has turned into Loni in my head and I cannot unsee it for the life of me, so it adds even more unintentional humor to my life.

Soul Eater and FMA I have issues with the artwork that keep me from fangirling forever, but I love the strong women and the general kick ass vibes both have. I love how the guy behind Soul Eater is a wackadoodle who gives us so much craziness I can barely stand it and Black*Star is just too hilarious for words, and I love how the woman behind FMA isn't afraid to just gut you in the manga and not take it back. Yankee-kun I read for the obvious Kingdom bits, but I also love the characters and can't wait to see what crazy antics the cast gets into this week.

Claymore, Ouran High School Host Club, Vampire Knight are all manga I have started but wish to finish and be done with.

Movies:

Theaters/Non-Netflix: Sherlock Holmes, Toy Story 3, Twilight: Eclipse, Megamind*, Tangled*, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Tron: Legacy, Chronicles of Narnia Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
Netflix:  10th Kingdom (aired version, not vhs version), Bleach: The DiamondDust Rebellion, America's Sweethearts, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, The Reduced Shakespeare Company, Sherlock Holmes, Mallrats, Art & Copy, Glory, Herb & Dorothy, Blood: The Last Vampire (LA), Red Cliff: Theatrical Version, Red Cliff: International Version, Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, The Proposal, Robin Hood Men In Tights, Soapdish, Julie & Julia, Ninja, McLintock!,  Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Ponyo, Ninja Assassin, The Losers, XXX, Star Trek: First Contact, Star Trek: The Voyage Home, Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Movie, The Princess and the Frog, 17 Again, How to Train Your Dragon, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, She's the Man,  Bad Company, Objectified, The Color of Magic, IQ, Calamity Jane, The Fifth Element, Demolition Man, Show Girls (because of The Nostalgia Chick XD), Star Trek (2009), Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls, Switch (1991), Iron Eagle, Hairspray (last half of the movie was the last movie of 2010 :D)

All of that adds up to 31 new movies for this year :D

Books:

New/Re-reads: Julia Quinn: new {Dancing at Midnight, What Happens in London, Minx, To Catch a Heiress, How to Marry a Marquis, On the Way to the Wedding, To Sir Philip With Love} reread {Romancing Mr Bridgerton, When He Was Wicked, It's In His Kiss, The Secret Diaries of Miss Miranda Cheever, An Offer From a Gentleman, The Duke and I}, Practical Magic, Twelve Kingdoms: The Shadow of the Moon The Sea of Shadow, Lisa Kleypas {The Hathaways series: Mine Till Midnight, Seduce Me at Sunrise, Tempt Me at Twilight, Married by Morning, Love in the Afternoon; The Wallflower series: Wallflower Christmas} , A Loving Scoundrel, Virtual Node, Terry Pratchett {Guards! Old favs I still read on occasion: Harry Potter, Tad Williams Memory Sorrow and Thorn trilogy, any Star Wars: X-Wing books, A Song of Fire and Ice series, Pern/Talent series, Dune, Dante's Divine Comedy, my English Romantics textbook of glory and win
Planned KO: Julia Quinn books (successfully KOed in March and again in December :D), Twelve Kingdoms, A Song of Fire and Ice, Guard & Witch Pratchetts}
More or less currently reading:  End of the year, nothing to see here :D

I read a lot, but these days, most of it is ebooks! As you can see, I totally sucked at KOing anything that wasn't Julia Quinn this year. OOPS. There's always next year though! I read ~21 new books this year (roughly because my list isn't 100% yet).

Yep. I thought if I did a floorset, my sleep cycle would get out of whack. Almost 4AM and I'm wide awake >.<. About an hour ago I was actually in bed, but had a compulsion to grab a song I heard on MTV2 and then... I cleaned out the top two sections of my rubbermaid. I now have a place for all my frequently used and not-so frequently used electronics.

But somehow, my wicker bins are almost exploding with paper again, so that means sometime this week I have to sit down and go through all the papers again. I have a feeling I'm going to be trashing all my old class notes, so that should take care of a good drawer or so of paper XD.

List for ... today: o.0;; ) Who said today was a day off, again?
