10/50 new books for the year, go me! I should finish book #11 tomorrow or the next day actually. Decided to write tonight instead of finishing the book :3. There's a discrepancy in my goodreads vs personal accounting of book ratings, btw-- Industrial Magic, for example, I have a 4/5 at goodreads because against most books I'd give it that rating. But compared against the other Women of the Otherworld series, I have to rate it as a 3.5.

Also, I wish I'd gotten the name Industrial Magic first, wow.

THOUGHTS
#1: Writing isn't the easiest of processes, but that's no excuse to stop when things get difficult. If I'm going to take MYSELF seriously as a writer, I need to utilize my innate stubbornness & relentless drive to keep attacking my writing projects on a daily basis. I need to learn how to write consistently every day, not just when it feels "easy" or "right" or "in the mood."

#2: I will not feel guilty for consuming so many movies/books and (thus far) only writing 17 / 60 days of the year. February is a good example of why, actually: I wrote 10 days this month, 7 of which occurred after either reading some of a book or watching a movie. The 3 days I wrote that did not follow consuming any media, I generated only 1,301 words. But those 7 days I wrote after reading a book or watching a movie? Yeah, I wrote 17,283 words. Even taking out Tam's application & Fly's never-ending birthday fic, there's a serious numerical difference between those word counts, and I think it speaks to how I interact with some kinds of media.

TV is my brainless feelings hour. Books, however, trick my brain into storytelling mode-- I do a lot of arguing with the text, I'm hyperaware of authorial choices, and lines (just like poems or song lyrics) will eat at my brain. This also happens with really good movies or even more rarely, extremely well scripted television shows. So when I read for a bit and then go off to write, my brain is already in storytelling mode, which makes creating my own narrative infinitely easier than going in stone cold & having to build up that focus.

I'm having a dreadful time with focus lately, so I'm totally using this cheat to get work done. XD

And if anyone was curious about my year-to-date word count, I'm at 33,839 words (which yes, does average to roughly 1,990 words per writing day) out of my goal of 200,000 words. So although I'm INCREDIBLY behind on getting Chains finished, I'm actually on track for hitting 200K.
