It goes without saying that Fly and Scott are the most adorable & brilliant couple I've ever had the delight in hanging out with! The few hours I spent in SF with them yesterday were fantastic, and I wish we could go on boozeness trips on a weekly basis, even if I'm definitely feeling it in the mornings now XD. But as I sat waiting for the Caltrain last night (I missed my original one by two minutes! TWO MINUTES!), I realized something incredibly profound. I've known Fly for nearly 10 years and Thursday night was the first time I ever heard her amazingly vivacious laugh. Which is weird and sad, but then again... how many times can you say that you've learned so much about a close friend 5, 10 years into the friendship?
Along that vein, the past two stolen evenings have been pure enchantment, the kind of joy in sharing a bit of ourselves that for all of our years of monitor to monitor contact, has been lost. The flash of smile, the light touch of encouragement, the human sparkle that online friendships do not allow for. Which is not speaking ill or invalidate online friendships at all-- I maintain I am closer with you guys than most of the friends I have offline. But at the same time... I don't get to see you guys, and that does change things. And I kind of argue... it has changed things for the better.
I am so honored and touched by the group we've build up with each other-- it may have started with sharing a bit of our passions back in the day (hello Sailor Moon!), but over time that has transformed into some of the most incredible friendships a person could ever dream for. I've shared more of myself with you guys than I think I'll ever share with anyone, grown so much with your help, so although I don't have the pleasure of seeing you guys as often as my heart wishes... I kind of feel like we've transcended to this billion times better community, one that has more than just a common interest... but the same spirit.
All of this is a really round about way of saying I really love you guys, and I'm so honored that all of you spend so much time furiously pounding the keys to communicate with me <333. (Or in Sage's case... opening the door. What a year this has been! :3.)
