Bleach Thoughts, Eps 1-5 :D

Initial Credits: eh, boring, don't like the music-- WTF evil crazy teddy bear? AHH NIGHTMARES. Okay, they caught my attention.
Episode 1: The Day I Became a Shinigami
*Trippy liquid/fog opening? NEAT.
* High Kick fighting? Chimi does not approve!
* The family that kicks together, stays together?
* Ha! His sister (Karin) is in permanent denial about seeing ghosts. I APPROVE.
* And Karin mocks their father! INSTANT LOVE. Please, Sage, tell me Deon has a sibling just like her. PLEASE.
* HA. Ichigo has the same reaction to big scary bug thing hunting the ghost that I had XD.
* Aaaand, Rukia to the rescue! Is she short, or is Ichigo just crazy tall? Emo!dead butterfly has to have relevance.
* Invisible monsters are never good. And calling death gods brats is not a smart move, Ichigo. XD And we have another butterfly, released after Rukia sends the guy ghost to Soul Society.
* HA THE PICTURES OF GOOD AND BAD SPIRITS. OMG MUSTACHE. AHH THEY BETTER NOT KILL KARIN.
* Ichigo should know he can't fight without a sword ;). HA, I was right! The sword is always the source of bad-assery.
* MAN HENSHIN. I love how the sword gets bigger. *rolls eyes* Oh Rukia, it isn't how big the sword is... XD
* Short battle is short *___*
MY THOUGHTS
Ichigo is falling into the chosen one lead slot-- he's obviously being set up for a destiny, already is protecting people who can't protect themselves, and is getting thrust into a world where he has no idea WHAT is going on. Interesting that they used the 'seeing supernatural' approach-- the viewer/observer, who protects and TALKS, vs active fighter, who fights and interacts with no one. Usually the 'talking' role is taken by the girl, and the fighter the guy, so that is nicely subverted here. I like how both kick ass :D. Yay for show that doesn't paint weakling secondary characters (yet).
But back to Ichigo for a second-- his throwing off the demon magic, when 'no human can,' is obviously a sign he's something special, adding yet another point in the chosen one/special destiny. Especially with the Hollow being drawn to him due to his high spiritual energy, and the fact his 'pulse' was subdued previously, hiding him from view. But something had to have gone wrong, because, well, he sees dead people.
Which really pisses me off, because that was Whist's big thing in IPOM. DAMN YOU ANIME FOR THINKING OF EVERYTHING FIRST.
... Anyway. Moving on.
Rukia is a really interesting character. That was pretty bad ass how she scolded Ichigo after the whole stupid challenging superior bad ass monster deal. Sure, her power was taken, but it wasn't because of a failure or weakness on her part, but Ichigo being THE CHOSEN ONE/HERO.
My big prediction from first episode? I think Ichigo is a reincarnated Death God. I don't even know if this works in the universe, but it is the only thing that makes sense to me unless he's some kind of Death God Jesus with Super Big Sword.
Episode 2: The Shinigami's Work
* HA RUKIA PWNS. I love that she wrote a threat on her hand.
* AND SHE KNOCKS HIM OUT OF HIS BODY. Oh god, I think I love Rukia to pieces. Totally making him commit to taking her place with the misdirection with the boy!ghost about to get eaten. You can't pick or chose- you have to help regardless. And yet, the concept of duty being a pisspoor reason to sacrifice yourself-- can't help but think that's a theme, too. Even though I think he's just talking-- he's totally committed, if only because HE'S THE CHOSEN ONE/HERO.
* How much you want to bet Ichigo has to help those bullies from the first episode at some point?
* Good set up, showing how the Hollows are formed. Poor pervy ghost XD
* Boob!girl has suspicious bruise after getting hit? Is she dead or something? She's too solid to be a ghost?
* OMG. SHE LIVES IN HIS CLOSET. XDDDD
* AND THE PLOT THICKENS. Boob!girl's brother is the babeh!Hollow. I need to learn Boob!girl's name, I have a feeling she's important XD.
* .... okay, Boob!girl/Orihime (thank you Wikipedia) appears to get possessed or something? Is she like Ichigo, too?
I like the explanation for the hollows! And Ichigo is so Deon, it isn't even funny.
Episode 3: The Older Brother's Wish, the Younger Sister's Wish
* Ah, so if you kill a Hollow, it saves the person? Have a feeling that info comes in handy XD
* Wow, did they just kill Boob!girl? But she's still connected.. she'll get saved.
* Ichigo mentions the duty of the older brother, to protect those who come after-- and then goes and does a parallel of sorts to Rukia, calling back the previous episode's talk on duty not meriting sacrifice. Are we suppose to see Rukia and Ichigo as siblings, the exchange of powers Rukia protecting her soul-kin?
* That's right Ichigo. Everything is your fault. You *are* the hero, after all. LISTEN TO RUKIA :P.
* And we have another parallel, with the first episode and Ichigo stabbing himself in the chest to save his sisters-- and Orihime's brother stabbing himself in the chest to save his sister. The only difference is Ichigo's threat was external, while Orihime's threat was internal.
* Oh Ichigo, you were risking your life to save a ghost in the first episode. You are so ready. Stop kidding yourself XD.
Solid episode, if predictable from the title. Kind of weakens the whole hollow thing: instead of being super scary, now I just see them as big brothers with fugly masks XD.
Episode 4: Cursed Parakeet
* HAHA to title. Oh, birds. HOWEVER THAT IS NOT A PARAKEET. Cockatiel :P. And that voice is crazy creepy. CRAZY CREEPY.
* Okay, this Chad guy is hilarious. "When did you get that bird?" "Yesterday. (15 second pause) I got it" XD. And that guy is huge *____*.
* Aw, the juice box incident <3. They are so siblings.
* CREEPY BIRD IS CREEPY.
* Oh god, Rukia, NEVER STOP DRAWING. *DEAD*
* Rukia, you need to realize NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE WITH CHOSEN ONE ICHIGO :D
* WOO RUKIA KICK ASS :D. OH CRAP THAT DIDN'T WORK XD. Go save her, Chad! :D YAY.
On to part 2....
Episode 5: Beat the Invisible Enemy!
* The music is improving :D
* Another reminder his mom died. Hm. Maybe she was a Death God who stayed in the living world? I don't know, Ichigo's got to have some reason for his uber!skills. :D
* HA HA. I need an icon of Chad randomly punching the air. HILARIOUS. Rukia and Chad make a kick ass team <3. RUKIA CANNON FTW. MINI BOMB LEECHES. Oh god, why didn't i think of that for Dolom?! HA.
* Oh, Ichigo, you are turning bad ass <3
* OH BABEH!bird, you are so sad :(. YET STILL CREEPY. STOP TALKING :(!!

Date: 2008-06-02 01:11 am (UTC)Work will be interesting this week, because I'm still supposed to do this silkscreen qualification which must be done inside the controlled area, and I'm going to argue for Not Going In While Sick, because somehow runny nose + controlled area =/= good idea in my head. I'm on an RIE, though, which means even if I had such a humidifier (I don't), I'd probably not be at my desk to make use of it. Ah, well. If I continue to improve, it won't be an issue. and I'll keep my kleenex!
I think we all fall into that trap with Bleach, because, well, it's a shonen anime, and it's very easy to assume that it's like every other stereotyped shonen series out there. I'm surprised to find that most of them have a lot more going for them than I expected, though (especially when one is willing to delve into speculation in fanfics :3 ).

And I'll believe you on other shonen animes... but somehow, I have a feeling Bleach is going to turn into something special and completely unlike anything else. I just wish I'd given in earlier so I wasn't so far behind everyone!
