I got some bad news today, which is why I've been mostly offline (have been invisible most of the evening. Yay for invisibility). Which, on top of the heat, made for eurgfacekol.

... on the way to PA from Carmel, Steve pulled the car over on 17, and asked me to drive, explaining that he was feeling light-headed and > had pain in the center of his chest. I drove him to El Camino > Hospital in Mountain View where they did blood work and found that his “cardiac enzymes" are elevated; EKGs were negative, but the doctor explained that EKGs don't always detect small heart attacks. He had another little pain in his chest while in their ER, and when they put a nitroglycerin-tab under his tongue it pretty immediately extinguished the pain, further indicating that he might have had "a little heart attack" as the Internist on duty put it. So, he spent the night, and they did another blood test at around 2am to track his cardiac enzyme level. The results were unchanged so at 7am his new cardiologist did an angiogram which showed that he has early-stage coronary artery disease, BUT, that doc thinks he didn’t have a heart attack, but instead had a reaction to ibuprophen which he took prior to playing tennis from 11am to 3pm with no food at all, all day!! I brought him home from the hospital yesterday at about 2:30, unplugged the phones and we went to sleep. I had to chauffeur him around because he has a “plug” in his femoral artery from the angiogram so he can’t drive until tomorrow.

I'm in a state of shock, mostly, because Uncle Steve is like, one of my most favorite people of all time, and I totally KNEW something was up because I couldn't get ahold of either of them. But you never think POSSIBLE HEART ATTACK or CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE.

So I've spent most of the night alternating between HOLY CRAP and SWEATING.

I know the way you feel - it's like a punch in the gut to find out that that person is sick.

BUT! They're badass, and can totally kick butt on whatever is making them sick, whether it's a heart problem or something else!!!

I don't know with Steve-- he's very stubborn, and doesn't always listen to the doctors. I don't know if they can do anything for CAD, even if it is found early, but I'm totally sending happy thoughts his way. Thank you for the kick butt note, though, it totally made me cackle, and I so needed that right now <3.

How is your grandmother doing, btw? Did you get to see her when you were in Texas?

Thank you so much <3. And I'll be sure to send wishes to my Aunt-- which is kind of funny, as she is half convinced everyone online is nothing but crazy stalkers trying to get in my pants. If she only knew XD.
