Song!meme returns! Yes, this is what Sage and I ninja'ed up during chats tonight.
1. Pick a character, pairing, a fandom, whatever you like.
2.Turn on your music player and put it on random/shuffle. (I made a playlist with 45 songs, since I have a TON of tiny tiny songs from soundtracks, but I *did* put it on shuffle <3)
3. Write a drabble related to each song that plays. You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts, and stop when it's over. No lingering afterwards! (I only cheated once with the last one, but I did edit after because I don't write in order. The titles were all the first lines I wrote ;))
4. Doten six of these, then post them.
Sage's marvelous collection can be found here. I have 2 of the songs uploaded, btw, the rest are links to youtube vids <3.

Prompts: song!meme "Lockdown Shelter — team9 vs. Stereogum" & fanfic100: air
The wind before her swirls and dances, nipping at her bare heels, teasing the scales that seal her skin. Leaning into her element, Loni smiles. She has missed this, her face flushed and eyes warm with a freedom. The air charms her lips, the lightest of kisses, and she can’t help but giggle at the sensation.
But the sound is shaken from the air by a movement on the wind, a shadow pulling wrongness unto itself. A daemon, and not far. Her smile is swallowed by resolve as Loni darts forward, steps light as satin, folding her slim body through the air currents more visible to her eyes than the world around her.

Prompts: song!meme "I Want You - Kings of Leon"
His smile is the first thing she can remember. Starving in body and soul, that smile was a balm, and she came to ached for it as her body begged for food. Always his smile was accompanied by a hand to help raise her up, a kiss to her wounds, fingers teasing a smile from her parched lips when she had thought herself too weak to move. His was the only smile she knew— she had no others to judge it against.
But when she followed him to Soul Society, she found herself bathed in smiles. Smiles she did not have to beg for, smiles that did not come with demands, smiles that did not trade her soul for a scrap of food. She began to understand the hand that had helped raise her up was partnered by another that had held her down.
Years passed, and she told herself immune to that smile, knowing it as razor thin and traitorous.
But as she fell broken against the sky, Rangiku couldn’t help but wondered who Gin would barter his smiles with now.

Prompts: song!meme "Daylight - Coldplay" & fanfic100: storm
Reed does not breathe as he waits.
He does not see the bay swallow the sun. He does not see the world fade into gray haze. He does not see the churning foam angered waves beat upon the sands. He sees nothing, save for death and worry.
The ocean spits out a small figure, and air fills Reed's lungs once more. He is only peripheral aware of the ocean's mantle now caressing the sands. "Lynn." He whispers as lanky legs take him to the water’s edge. There is no hesitation as he laces their right hands together, clucking under his tongue as he tosses a heavy strand of slick, green kelp from her matted hair.
She says nothing, leaning her chilled body against his, eyes closed against the violence her power wrecked across the beach. He brushes tangles from her face, pressing his lips against her temple. It is more than life he breathes into her as he whispers against her skin: “Don’t do that again.”

Prompts: song!meme "Eyes on Fire - Blue Foundation"
When she woke to sixty four miniature monkey’s pounding at her skull, Akemi blindly reached for the cure on her bedstand. But as her hand brushed past a metallic chill, the world ceased spinning. Stung by memories no amount of alcohol could truly bury, her hand sprang back from the smooth surface of the locket.
She buried her head in the covers. She wasn’t strong enough for this, especially not with the second worse hangover in her life (Mitsuko’s bachelorette fiesta had been legendary). She wasn’t strong enough to face him. He was surely out there, mingling with the rest of the wedding party, searching for her with that smile that melted her knees and sent her heart all wobbly.
One breath, two, and her hand reached for the aspirin. She was Venus, she could handle the green man. And she wasn’t sixteen anymore.

The sidewalk is dry, but Mara is still careful as she maneuvers the bicycle down the path. Her brakes have been acting up lately, and scratches take longer to heal now that she’s just like everyone else.
The streets have been crowded, tourists cramming in for one last jaunt before autumn steals them away, but you wouldn’t know it from the bicycle path. Save for the occasional falling leaf, nothing pesters her as she flies by.
The sun is bright, there’s just enough wind to toss her hair, and if she breathes deeply enough it, she can almost taste the ocean, salty and crisp. It is almost enough, she thinks, before she realizes it isn’t the ocean she’s tasting.

Prompt: song!meme "Me and the Moon - Something Corporate" (I totally cheated with this one, the song played four or five times XD)
Toph had just finished her evening meal when some thing landed on her nose. Wrinkling against the intrusion, she raised her hand to smack the offending bug away, but was stopped by a shout across the campfire.
She had half a mind to smack to bug anyway, but why should she unleash her frustration on a stupid bug that didn’t know any better than to piss off the world’s greatest earthbender? She gritted her teeth and let the thing stay. It didn’t feel slimy, and it wasn’t like Toph was afraid of a stupid bug.
Even if it felt weird to have something crawling all over her nose. And it probably was going to bite her any second.
“That’s a flutterfly,” Sokka announced, leaning closer. She dug her toes deeper into the earth to reveal his smile. And that he’d put that ridiculous hat on his head, humming as he peered at her nose and stroked his chin.
Great. Toph ground her teeth, oblivious to the earth shaking beneath her clenched toes, but stayed still. “Flutterfly? That’s a stupid name.”
“Flutterfly’s are really rare.” Aang’s voice chimed above the crackle of the camp fire. She’d forgotten he was there— sometimes the airbender sat so lightly upon the earth he was easy to miss. “I haven’t seen one in a hundred years! Don’t let it go, Sokka I want to see it!”
She was prepared for Aang to completely disappear, but it was still unsettling to know he was completely disconnected from the earth, flying across the campfire towards her. Toph really hated it when he used his airbending. She knew other people were impressed with how it ‘looked,’ but to her way of seeing it just felt like a cheap trick.
When she felt his feet touch the ground beside Sokka’s, Toph was careful to aim her grumble directly in his face. “You didn’t see anything for a hundred years.”
“That’s true Toph!” He laughed, brushing her comment aside.
The camp lapsed into silence as the two boys stared in fascination at the thing that wriggled around Toph’s nose. This was not how she wanted to spend the night, but she knew from experience the two boys could get lost in the stupidest things for hours.
And Toph was not going to have some bug on her face all night. She had things she could be doing. Like scratching at her feet, or knocking lump heads through the air the right way, from a good old smack upside the head from a nice, big, old rock.
“I don’t get what’s so interesting about a stupid bug.” Toph finally complained, wriggling her nose again as the bug began to wander the bridge of her nose. “Can’t one of you two take it or something?”
“Flutterfly’s are beautiful, Toph!” Aang and Sokka said at once, leaning closer. Uncomfortable by the close proximity, Toph decided she’d had enough.
“Well, they don’t feel beautiful. One of you guys take this thing before I-” As Toph spoke, the bug vanished, taking to the air much as Aang had.
The boys groaned in unison. “Aw, Toph! You scared it!”
But Toph didn’t respond. The bug had landed on the ground, just behind the campfire. The boys were loudly returning to their side of the campfire, content to wait for the others to return with dinner, but Toph didn’t feel inclined to enlighten them of the bug’s new location.
Well, might as well see what all the fuss is about. She shrugged, and tapped her foot against the ground. The vibrations the tiny creature gave off was minimal, but more than enough for her sharp senses to get a rough idea of what the bug looked like.
It was a little thing, with tiny, perfectly symmetrical wings that slowly fluttered. She admitted to herself, grudgingly, it did have a pleasing shape if you forgot it was a bug. As long as it stayed away from her face, she was willing to admit it wasn’t all that bad.
But she couldn’t for the life of her understand what about the bug was beautiful.
People with sight were just weird. Toph thought, slamming her foot against the earth, forcing a rock to rise at the precise angle for her to recline against. Let them look at a stupid bug all they want. I've got the real show.
And while the boys chatted on about the flutterfly, Toph watched the real beauty wake around her. The armies of ants crawling through the tall grasses. The badgermole out for a stroll just beyond the road, nudging its baby along. The family of turtleducks waddling by the stream. And the rest of the forest, just waking as the heat sank into the earth.
Notes!
#1: I had intended to start off with a Mara drabble to get me started, but this smash up came on it just screamed Loni and air. I think it was my favorite of the bunch, possibly because it was the closest to the prompt & song. This is one I will not be editing later, I think. The scales = Loni's totem-- when she uses magic she has to sprout scales and horns. At least her horns are cute! ;)
#2: I am not a fan of the Rangiku and Gin pairing. I get it on a kink level, I am perpetually confused why so many people seem to fangirl it as being omgtruelovefavoritepairingever. By all accounts, Gin is a sociopath o.0;;. I guess I just don't get it XD. So, I am going to edit this later, because I don't think I captured the right emotion and I really needed to spent more than four minutes on this piece.
#3: Another that is going to be edited, this time to get the repetition eased down to be less in your face. But I do like the image of this drabble. Oh Reed, you really are the Princesswaiting in the tower on sidelines, aren't you? XD.
#4: This is another one that needed more time to polish it up. I wrote it at the tail end of tonight's CC chat, btw ;). The monkeys are a reference to Chibimitsuko, naturally, although that poor kid is screwed with that name XD. Akemi loves her monkey ;_____;
#5: I wrote this with the intention Mara was going emo, but Sage thought she fell off her bike, so I'm leaving it open to interpretation because I really like Sage's idea. Oh Mara XD. At least she's not angsting about dead boyfriendthis week!
#6: I honestly cheated with this one because a) I kept getting pinged with IMs and only had about 15 words at the end of the first loop and b) I got sucked in with the flutterfly and couldn't figure out where I was going with it. I love writing for Toph because it makes me stop relying on visual cues AND I got to write a bit of dialogue. Will probably polish this up later, too, because I really like it. Especially the visual at the end. Toph is awesome <3333. Also, for those who are unaware of Avatar, this is what Sokka is wearing while he investigates the flutterfly XD. Oh Sokka you are such a dork <3.
