Was in the City last night-- saw sneak viewing of The Island at the Metreon and fireworks at the park-- Giants apparently won! W00t!

I liked it, but not for the reasons I think the filmakers wanted me to like it. There was a lot of humor within the setting, and I think the script really had some funny dialogue bits-- but Ewan totally turned them into flat out HILARIOUS. The cast was "on," at least the clones/products. But the "Hunter," despite recognizing him from ALIAS from Season 3, was very very lame. I totally called him turning on Sean Bean and helping rescue the clones/products.

I really liked the fact that Lincolntehclone (aka one of Ewan's characters) wasn't the only one of the clones to magically develop crazy brain activity-- and I liked how the script worked in the decision Lincolntehclone and Jordontheclone had on whether to save their fellow clones or not. It didn't seem like OMG WE HAVE TO GO. They honestly struggled-- he could have taken over his "originals" life easily enough after having him killed (oh yeah, that was ruthless but HOT I tell you. Kami and I were like OMG!!! whenever there were two Ewan's on our screen XD), and they had the boat from his dreams which obviously meant freedom.

The clones were honestly smart-- using their environment to work for them, learning how to use ordinary objects as weapons, and doing anything to survive-- and I do mean anything. There was a lot of honest angst going on, but unfortinately it was lost on the sometimes gross and over-actionated (hee) scenes. When Lincolntehclone and Jordontheclone were on the truck running away from the Hunter-character, they used their environment (the huge pilon things on the truck) to destroy a ton of cars-- but it was gross how they showed people being HIT by these pilons. And don't get me started on the whole gelbag/birth scene-- I felt physicially ill after that one alone!

There wasn't a lot of fire-ness in this movie, just a crap load of sick stunts that dragged what would have been a better script (with the humor and honest human drama) down. The movie could have stood to be 20 minutes shorter, but I don't know where they could have taken parts out, so I guess I understand why it was so long.

Final thought: 2 Ewans + 1 Sean Bean + Hunter-dude (who despite cliche role was HOT) = HOT BISHIE MOVIE. But very slim repeat value without a remote to fastforward through the nasty parts. ***1/2 stars ^.^;;

Pardon me while I go get my drool bucket. Double Ewan AND Sean Bean? I <3 Sean. I'm happy you liked it (and totally jealous that you caught a sneak peak), now I'm more confident about seeing it myself (it seemed rather dicey from what the commericals showed).
