basically this can be summarized as GIANTS
People talk about baseball sometimes being a game of inches, and that was never more accurate than it was last night. This is how close we came to a perfect game last night-- we were one out away, and Pence was just INCHES from snatching this ball.

This is the reaction in the dugout to the play that would rob Petit of the perfect game, in what would have otherwise been the final out of the game. Giants players, your reactions are totally MY reactions:

The heartbreaker here is Yusmeiro Petit is a 29 year old Journeyman pitcher-- he's only had one complete season as a starter in MLB and that was abject disaster. But with the Giants? He's been fucking brilliant these last 3 games-- watching him last Sunday at the Wrights was like watching Big Daddy all over again, pin point accuracy and utter, devastating command of the strike zone. This season hasn't been the best, but damned if Petit hasn't made September baseball exciting again, even though this season is basically in the can already.
And what really nailed home how special this game was for Petit? It was his first career complete game, and he was one out away from a perfecto. That just doesn't happen in baseball, and it nails home that anything can happen in the game.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to weep for what might have been and be damned proud of Petit for what he did accomplish. Please be back next year Petit, I don't think Vogey has much arm left & we need you T_____T
Anyway, in the excitement of the aftermath of Petit's near-perfect game last night, I, in my infinite wisdom, decided to watch Timmy's no-no from earlier this year to take the bitter edge of despair off the night. "I don't work until 1pm, I'm totally fine staying up until 3am to watch this :D" I thought to myself like any good Giants addict might, oblivious to the fact I had my schedule super wrong and was actually starting at 9am.
Yeah.
Thankfully I realized this BEFORE I finished the game-- unfortunately, I realized it during the 9th inning, so the only thing it really saved me was not giving into the urge to rewatch Cain's perfecto from last year. But I only managed just under 5 hours of sleep, so I was a bit of a walking zombie for today, and ended up crashing for a good four hours after work.
Except now it is 8 minutes to midnight and I want to watch Cain's perfecto but I work at 11am... SCREW IT LETS PUT THE PERFECTO ON AGAIN :D
