Mom Update

The good news is Mom has antibiotics in her system right now and her regular doctor doesn't agree with the diagnosis with the emergency guys about her MS worstening, although he was concerned she hadn't caught the signs of pneumonia for at least 2 weeks >.<. Turns out what the tech guy thought was the MS rearing up for an attack was her Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (I had to look it up, I was spelling it Thurastic), popping it's head up for a turn thanks to all the nasty weather we've had lately, which apparently explains the weird nerve twitches.

Either way, she's bundled up in the heaviest blankets and resting in her chair watching John Wayne right now, so I don't have to worry-- much. It's still frightening that she had pneumonia for at least two weeks and didn't realize it, though. The doctor said she has to keep it easy for the next few weeks and to be sure to leave the heat on-- she was leaving it off because PG&E decided to do a rates increase IN THE MIDDLE OF FRELLING WINTER.

But at least she's stopped smoking in the interim.

I'm taking an absense from GK Council until I get back to the dorms on Sunday/Monday. There's just too much going on right now for me to even try to handle the member problem. Between work, family issues, fixing the graduation issue from college, and my own health problems, finding time to get online is really becoming a problem-- I haven't even had enough time lately to check my e-mail or sit down and write on Finding Alice! Everything should be settled in enough for time management by Sunday though, so it's only a small leave.

Um, now for a school related update: that chance I could graduate in May? Might be increased if I can get a hold of my minor advisor the first week/day of classes and get my minor slip signed.

School textbooks are also going to be an issue. Three of my six classes weren't showing up as having textbook lists up yet (naturally, Humanities), but I ran over to the Robert's Bookstore site and they had 2 of the 3 classes listed. The bad news is one of the classes, American Pop Culture, isn't listed ANYWHERE, so the class might be dropped or something. I WORRY FOR IT.

50.00 Engendering Psychology
xx.xx Reconstructing Gender (buying @ Roberts)
20.00 Preventing Violence in Relationships
03.00 Essential Mystics
17.00 Mysticism: Holiness East & West
6.25 Religious History of America
xx.xx Table Tennis (buying @ Roberts)

So so far, I've only saved $64.90 (including tax and shipping) buying from half.com instead of through another place I am not saying because work issues. Not my best (two semesters ago's 264.00 bucks of saving was by far the best effort), but a pretty decent search so far. I think my first books will start arriving within this week.

My Religion in America class has 7 books, but only 1 of them is required so I'll do my best to rent them at the library, find online copies, or do the infamous buy one day, read, return for only 10% off policy. Which I only do at Roberts, because they are less intimidating with the whole work issue.

I still have a 30 dollars book certificate at Barnes and Nobles, so I can use that to get any of the "optional" books or anything that comes up for the illusive Pop Culture class.

The other good news, is that the Table Tennis book is 19.95 at Roberts. The bad news is, the Reconstructing Gender book is actually more expensive online in a number of sources, which is vastly disapointing as the book is 50.00 new, 42.20 used. Or something to that effect. However, I'll have to suck it up because it is for... the KLAW. God that name really brings you out of a slump with a tiny smile.

So despite the chaos of the last week, I think everything will be sorted out soon. My aunt #6 doesn't seem to have any new health problems, mom's situation is looking up, my step mother hasn't sawed off any more fingers this week, and dad is happily playing Dr. Mario on the Super NES.

In fandom related news, the Battlestar Galactica series was good enough for me to delurk at TWOP and actually post something. I have been a member of the board since 2001, and yet I have only 12 posts... so that tells you something of my lurking habits.

Regardless, my mom is woefully disapointed she missed the miniseries and the first episodes, so I'm going to work on making a tape for her. She does love her sci fi, so I'll have to do the same for Stargate SG1.

For some reason, she doesn't like Atlantis, though. Must work on that with her.

So, deceptively long LJ tirade aside, I think everything is going to be ok. Thanks everyone who was supportive in the last entry-- I was really upset yesterday, but everyone reminded me why I love you guys. Big hugs for everyone.
